Haftarah of Ki Tavo

The haftarah of Ki Tavo is the sixth haftarah of consolation from the Book of Isaiah. The haftarot are attributed to the anonymous prophet of the Babylonian exile, known as the Second Isaiah or Isaiah of Babylon. The beautiful poetry of this prophet has inspired the Jewish people throughout the ages. The Second Isaiah speaks of the return of Israel to her land and the rebirth of the city of Jerusalem. "Arise, shine, for your light is come, and the glory of the L-rd is risen upon you." The prophet speaks of the divine light that will guide the nation in their return to Jerusalem. Israel shall be blessed with great wealth.

The prophet speaks of the rebuilding of the Temple with the woods of Lebanon - the cypress, the plane tree, and the larch. The prosperity will be overwhelming. "For brass, I will bring gold; and for iron I will bring silver."

Isaiah of Babylon speaks of a new age of peace. "Violence shall no more be heard in your land, desolation nor destruction within your borders; but You shall call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise."

The light of G-d will be the inspiration of the nation. "The sun shall be no more your light by day, neither for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the L-rd shall be an everlasting light to you, and your G-d your glory."

The beautiful haftarot of comfort come to their conclusion on the Shabbat before the arrival of the New Year.
