The haftarah of Pekudei derives from the First Book of Kings,
chapters 7 and 8. After the completion of the Temple in Jerusalem,
King Solomon transfers the sacred objects of his father Kind David
to the Temple. King Solomon gathered the nation of Israel in
the month of Eitanim, the month we now know as Tishrei. The kohanim
brought the Ark of the Covenant to its sacred place under the
wings of the cherubim in the Holy of Holies. King Solomon pronounced
the official declaration of the dedication of the Temple. "The
L-rd has chosen to abide in a thick cloud: I have now built for
You a stately House, a place where You may dwell forever."
King Solomon explained that King David had intended to build
the Temple. However, G-d informed David that his son Solomon,
instead, would be the architect of the House of G-d in Jerusalem.
The covenant of the Jewish people continued through Solomon
with the dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem.
