The haftarah shares the building of the beit hamikdash, the Temple, by King Solomon. King Hiram of Tyre in Phoenicia assisted Solomon in the construction. Unfortunately, Solomon had a policy of forced labor that would later be one of the causes of the division of the Kingdom of Israel. The passage describes the preparation of the timber and the stones for construction. The dimensions of the Temple are given with its three areas - an outer portico, an inner sanctuary, and a hidden area of supreme holiness.
G-d commands King Solomon to be faithful to the commandments. If Solomon fulfills his obligation, then G-d will maintain His unique relationship with the House of David.
