The prophet Ezekiel envisions two sticks, one representing the Northern Kingdom of Ephraim and the other the Southern Kingdom of Judah. The sticks are held together representing the unity of Israel. Ezekiel envisions the nation returning in unity to the Promised Land. The prophet portrays the House of David as ruling over this united kingdom. Ezekiel speaks of the "brit shalom", the covenant of peace, which will last forever. The surrounding nations shall also know that G-d 's presence dwells among His people.
